Public Record

Your credit report contains several types of information, including your payment history, current and past credit accounts, and public records related to your financial management. Public records such as tax liens and bankruptcies can affect how lenders perceive your credit status, and can be a factor in a lender’s decision not to give you credit.

Public records are updated regularly with information from the courts. Keeping current with all bills is the best way to avoid derogatory items becoming public records and hurting your credit report/score.
